Rapture Of The Deep (UK)

Rapture Of The Deep (US)

from 84 Perfect Strangers, Rapture is one of my favourite album by DP. In Georgia people don't like it. I think, the main fault of this album is how sound is made. I listen to the songs, they are amazing: Wrong man, Kiss Tomorrow - real DP hard rock. Jankyard Blues - great song with great keyboard solo and elements of jazz-blues. Clearly Quite Absur - my favourite DP's ballad after "Sometimes Screaming".

BUT, sound is bad, drum isn't so strong, as in "The Battle Rages On", or "PS". that's why, it lacks enthusiastic and energetic mood.

BUT, if you really listen 'Rapture', you guess, that it's classic DP's hard-rock tunes. (e.g Kiss Tomorrow, Wrong man).

for me it's classic album

I voted "A Classic album".

For me there is one very simple reason for it: it's the first complete album the band has made with Don Airey, on Bananas there is still some influence of the great Jon Lord.
I like both keyboard masters just as much.

The songs on Rapture are very good and strong. I like the lyrics a lot. The album was released while I was in the process of getting divorced and the lyrics on Cleary Quite Absurd and Thing I never Said were very appealing to me.

Can't wait for the next album to be released....

I think Rapture is a great album but not a classic one.. there's some fantastic songs like Rapture, Wrong man, Things I never said, Clearly, Girls like that but there's others not good for me especialy on the second part of the album after Clearly.. this songs like Before time began are too far to Deep Purple music..

The best album with Steeve Morse and one of the greatest ever not only in the DP history but also in rock history at all. I'm still get a booms along my body when I'm listening to this master piece.

It's one of those albums that starts off with the lesser tracks - Wrong Man, etc. - and the classics come later - Junkyard Blues, and so on. It's a great album, especially with Things I Never Said, but I play Bananas a lot more. Hate to admit it!

Anyone agree that the sound isn't as good as Bananas? That had THE best production of any DP album - especially Gillan's vocals. Rapture.. has a slightly muffled sound in comparison. I reckon the 3rd Bradford album will be a real classic.

Thank you, Solitaire! (Great Purple song, by the way...)

Saw the other thread about a 'new' album, but I seem to remember a Glover quote that a new record isn't (or wasn't) the priority. Maybe a live album - a real, double album - will be the next Purple record. Going by the last UK tour, they're on amazing form.
