At first, Hello,
I am new member of this forum.I salute you, all. Very Happy
I have to ask you about first singer Rod Evans. How Deep Purple found this singer, who sang like little beat Jim Morison? Some songs from that time look like The Doors. My opinion is that, Deep Purple looks like realy rock and rolle band. Some songs were psychodelic but my favourite songs are Emmareta and Kentacky Woman.
My question is:is Rod Evans coming to a DP concert to remember early DP and sweety rock songs?

Lalena I love you! Very Happy

no really recent news about Rod.. Jon Lord said recently that Rod had some problems with alcoohol but that's all..
Rod Evans came from the band MI 5 during 1966 with the drummer Ian Paice.. the band had changing the name in 1967 by The Maze until 1968.. then the two guys had meeting Blackmore Lord and Simper to form Roundabout and then Deep Purple in march 1968.. forty years old !!!

Rod Evans was amongst a score or more of vocalists who'd come to Deaves Hall in 1968 to try out for the lead vocalist job in the fledgling 'Roundabout'. As mentioned before, Evans was in the band 'The Maze' with drummer Ian Paice, who'd made the casual aquaintance of Ritchie Blackmore a year or so previously while on tour in Hamburg, Germany where Blackmore was living at the time. Future DP roadie Mick Angus had also auditioned for the vocalist job with Roundabout and had mentioned to his friend Evans that it looked like he'd (Angus) gotten the job. Unbeknownst to Angus, Evans arranged an audition for himself and was asked to bring along The Maze's drummer to the audition...by the end of the day, Roundabout had a new vocalist and to Bobby Woodman's woe - a new drummer, too!

I don't think he is an important person Sad sorry but....
MKI was Lord & Blacmore's instrumentals.... their instrumental songs were what it made Deep Purple so appreciated... let's agree that Rod is ordinary vocalist.... and almost all songs in MKI albums were covers....

Agree!
Sorry Rod!
But Rod did one important thing. He brought Ian Paice in the group, and this is really an achievment
